Another Day
Another Day
Fortress walls besieged me round—
My word, I heard a sudden sound!
I saw this messenger of sorts,
And I was blessed with vague reports
Of someone with so strange a gaze
That only nature knew his ways.
And for this reason, sent away,
I’d wait on him, another day.
In a schoolhouse, sorry sights
Of games and grips and other frights.
All but one angelic face,
Whose soul was in another place—
Amongst the trees, in all their glory,
Still he lived a rural story.
Quite a strange one, I might say,
I’d wait on him, another day.
Crashing chaos, trite displays,
These books would see the coming days
Of clones in passing, one by one,
In search of their clandestine fun.
And in these noontimes, where was he?
Entranced beneath the willow tree!
My fallen heart began to pray—
I’d wait on him, another day.
Every morning in these halls,
I heard the flirting, gamine calls.
Passing by, ‘twas all the same—
“Ambition” was his only aim.
And teasing didn’t cross his mind,
The strangest boy you’ll ever find.
And when approached he’d run away,
I’d wait on him, another day.
Little gifts, as time did tick,
So Jack be nimble, Jack be quick.
Our lives, they seem to intertwine—
Oh, won’t you be my Valentine?
Ever after, tried and true,
I could have been your ingénue.
Oh, do these feelings fade away?
I suppose I’ll wait another day.
