Close Your Eyes
Close Your Eyes
Every time you close your eyes,
Before the sun comes tumbling over
Sleepy hills, concealing night time
Wanderers, darkness will be left to conquer
That lowly figure and ivory flag. Every time
I close my eyes, frightful of what I might see,
Growing up in binding vines of
Leather and lace and your embrace,
Heavy portraits chain me down,
In my sobbing squeaky psyche,
Just enough to burn your face into my
Soul, killing we, loving you is death to me
And what I clutch now makes us three.
A charm I've found I carry round,
Over hills you cannot see
In night time's dreary, damping light
Protecting your gaze from my mind
Protecting sunshine from these eyes.
